Second-year students from NSCG Stafford College's Level 3 Film, TV & Creative Media course were invited along to 'Staffs Fest' at Carney Pools, near Wolseley Bridge to gain a hands-on insight into the world of live music events as part of their studies.

Using their knowledge, skills and teamwork, students were challenged to capture usable film footage of each act across the four stage, to be edited and used by the festival organisers for future promotional activity.

Testing them even further, on Saturday morning, students had the exciting opportunity to work with upcoming bands on the ‘Introductory stage’. The brief set by the festival organiser was to film three different performances for each band who would then choose their favourite video to put forward to help them to compete against other acts to secure a spot on one of the Main Stages next year.

Curriculum Leader for Level 3 Film, TV & Creative Media Production, James Nicholls said, "No amount of training in a classroom can emulate the experience of capturing a live festival. Our students worked 36 hours on site over three days, recording acts across four stages in a variety of challenging situations. The client, myself and the team here at Stafford College are immensely proud of how our students applied themselves over the weekend, and know they will value this experience as their progress towards their future career goals.

Commenting on this amazing experience, student Toby Talbot said; "This entire experience has really pushed all of us. It's brought us closer and tested all of our skills, in media or otherwise. Every single team pulled their weight in an experience unlike anything we'd done before."
