Hairdressing students from Newcastle College and Stafford College, part of Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG), continue their road to success at the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) National Finals held on 15 and 16 March, where students received 5 awards in total.

Having successfully made it through the semi-final round, a group of NSCG’s talented Level 2 Hair & Media Make-Up students travelled to Winter Gardens Blackpool to compete in the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) National Finals where they hoped to impress judges in a number of categories.

After going head-to-head against students from education and training providers across the UK, Laura-Paige Enderby, a Level 2 Hairdressing Apprentice, was the first NSCG student to compete and she came 1st place in the First Year Ladies Commercial Blow Dry and Finish category.

Two further students competed in the Ladies Editorial category, which saw Isabelle Clifford achieve another 1st place for NSCG, with Hannah Vivian achieving 3rd place. Continuing to dominate the awards podium, Nikhita Patel and Holly Walsh achieved placed 3rd in the Team Bridal Event category, with Nikhita completing the make-up element and Holly creating a hairstyle. The final award for the group went to Grace Telford, who achieved 3rd place in the Gender Transformation category.

Commenting on the success of the students, Lorraine Drayton, Curriculum Manager for Hairdressing and Beauty at Stafford College, said: “By competing in high profile national competitions such as these, our students gain valuable experience that they can use to help them progress into the workplace. The students did themselves and the College proud and I’m delighted with the latest collection of awards, which recognise their talent and hard work”.

The Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) was founded in 1963 by a group of hairdressing teachers as a national network of like-minded specialists who exchanged good practice and support. Members of the AHT include teachers, trainers or assessors of hairdressing or therapy subjects, who are either working towards or currently hold teaching/assessing qualifications.
