Local employer, Capula, have donated an All-Electric, purpose-built go-kart to students at Stafford College, part of Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG).

Capula, a leading system integration specialist for control, automation and operational IT systems based in Stone, currently employ a number of apprentices through NSCG and donated the go-kart to Stafford College’s Motor Vehicle department in order to support students and apprentices learning and understanding of Hybrid and electric vehicle technology.

Commenting on the donation, Steve Tellwright, HR Director at Capula, said: “We have worked with NSCG for many years now who have provided us with a number of hard-working apprentices during this time and we understand that facilities and equipment is a key part of helping students to learn.

Steve continued: “We originally acquired the go-kart after our involvement in KMF’s Young Engineers competition which completed in July 2018 and after that, we had no particular use for the go-kart, but I knew that students and apprentices at NSCG would definitely benefit from having it and since the donation, I’m glad to see that they are.”

NSCG already owns four All-Electric and Hybrid vehicles to support learning including a Tesla Model X and BMW i8 and Motor Vehicle learners are now learning how the go-kart is built and how the engine powers performance.

Stafford College’s Engineering students were also tasked with designing and producing brand-new purpose built panels for the go-kart using the College’s 3D laser printer to improve the appearance and safety of the go-kart.

Lisa Reading, Head of Engineering, Construction & Motor Vehicle at Stafford College, said: “We can’t thank Capula enough for this very generous donation. It has already massively contributed to students learning, in particular our Motor Vehicle students who are currently learning about All-Electric vehicle technology.”

NSCG offer a wide-range of courses for school leavers, including vocational programmes in subjects including Motor Vehicle and Engineering.
