Three NSCG learners studying the Level 3 T Level Design, Surveying and Planning pathway, have successfully secured extended industry placements working at Amey Plc, a leading provider of full life-cycle engineering, operations and decarbonisation solutions, for transport infrastructure and complex facilities.

During their placement, learners Ethan McCormack, Ben Stefan and Jack Appleby will be getting involved in end-to-end delivery from design through to construction on the Amey Infrastructure+ Partnership, supporting Amey's highly experienced team. The students will gain hands-on experience, practical experience in four key areas:- Structures; Integrated Transport; Major and Developer Projects and Construction. Ethan, Ben and Jack will have the opportunity to work specifically with Amey’s construction team on the Chatterley Valley scheme, which will see a new roundabout access being built. As part of their induction week, the students visited the site before works commenced and will get to see this scheme through to completion, whilst on placement.

Lisa Stewart, Principal Operations Manager at Amey said: “The whole team at Amey are delighted to extend our early careers talent pipeline and include this group of students from NSCG. We’re excited to see the paths their careers follow over the next few years.”

Talking about his time on placement so far, T Level learner, Ethan McCormack said: “I felt so welcome at Amey during my first week. We all had so much fun and found everything so interesting. Having the chance to go out on-site has been my favourite part of the placement and has helped me to focus on my studies back at college. I can’t wait for the future and can’t wait to develop my relationship with the staff at Amey and get new experiences in civil engineering.”

Meryl Finney, T-Level Manager at NSCG added; “We are so pleased to be working with Amey Plc on this trial for the organisation, who have come on-board as a placement provider to nurture their future workforce. Learners studying our T Level Design, Surveying and Planning pathway are now out on their extended work placement with Amey gaining invaluable experience, benefiting from the mentoring of full-time staff who have years of industry experience. They will all really benefit from the expertise of the team which will give them a real insight into the technical skills required for their future careers within this sector and it's really exciting to be part of this trial placement, which if successful, will be rolled out across the company nationwide.”
