Course overview

The BTEC Extended Diploma in Business Management is equivalent to three A Levels and provides learners with the comprehensive knowledge, understanding and skills to enter a wide variety of careers within the business and commercial sectors as well as the
opportunity to progress to higher education.

The course is about the practical development of business knowledge and skills, where you will study four core units and 14 specialist units. The four core units in the Extended Diploma give learners an introduction to and an understanding of the business environment, management of resources, marketing of resources, marketing and communication and others which are all fundamental to the success of business organisations. Examples of units of study are:

- Managing an Event
- Starting a Small Business
- Developing Teams
- Recruitment & Selection
- Creative Product Promotion
- Business Accounts

Those students who have excelled at GCSE or show a natural acumen will be invited to join 'The Future Leaders' Academy' which presents additional challenges & opportunities alongside the course.

Maths and English
Alongside your course you will have the opportunity to study maths and/or English to improve your skills in these vital subjects by attending structured weekly sessions as part of your timetable. Maths and English will also be assessed in all your work throughout
your course.

What else do I need to know?

To help you, there is a course team of friendly, approachable tutors committed to your success who will encourage you to use the College’s extensive resources including computer facilities, library, private study area, and careers and counselling service.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need four or more GCSEs at grade 4/C or above in subjects that are relevant to the course you’d like to study (including maths and/or English). Alternatively, you’ll need a Level 2 Extended Certificate with overall Merit in a relevant subject and maths and English at appropriate levels.

How is it assessed?

You are continuously assessed throughout the course.
For each unit national standards are laid down, which you have to meet. Your tutors ensure that you are given
opportunities to do this through projects, running events, assignments, case studies and problem-solving situations.

You will attend college full-time for two years. Learning is through many different methods, including discussion, research and presentation, together with practical skill development where possible. You learn, and are assessed through many different methods. Your
timetable will include independent study time to enable you to consolidate the work carried out in lectures.

What financial support is on offer?

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18. If you are outside this age group please contact 01782 254188.
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £21,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business Management gives you the business skills and
knowledge to pursue a career in one of many areas such as Accountancy, Financial Services, Sales and Marketing, Personnel, Retailing, Public Administration, Law, Manufacturing and Production. It also qualifies you to progress to higher education at Higher National Diploma/Certificate or Degree Level. (You will also achieve UCAS points).
