Course overview
The introductory course will help you establish your starting point for maths, as well as increase your confidence to progress onto a nationally recognised qualification. During the introductory course, you will complete an initial and diagnostic assessment to establish your learning gaps and produce an individualised learning plan. In addition to targeting your learning gaps you will also develop reading and writing skills. Both you and the tutor will monitor your individual learning plan to help ensure you keep track of your learning and are able to achieve.What else do I need to know?
Please note there may be additional costs for books, materials or other expenses.In addition, a GCSE English class will run alongside the Functional Skills class, and will be available as an alternative to the Functional Skills English course.
What are the entry requirements?
You will need to complete an interview prior to starting the introductory course. During the interview you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your personal level of English reading and writing skills, these will be assessed through a combination of online and writing tasks.
How is it assessed?
Throughout the introductory course you will complete progress assessments and weekly homework tasks. These will be used to ensure you are developing the appropriate skills to progress onto the full qualification. In addition, at the end of the 6 weeks you will be given a full exam paper to ensure you are placed on the most appropriate qualification level for your individual skills.

What can I do next?
To successfully progress on to the Functional Skills qualification, you will need to prove excellent commitment and attendance. As well as, demonstrate a good level of progress and attainment towards your qualification level through your weekly assessments and homework.
