Course overview

The topics you will cover whilst training include:
Health and Safety in the salon: to ensure the safety of staff and clients at all times.
Waxing services will cover the removal of hair using waxing techniques from eyebrows, face, legs, underarm and bikini area
Hand and nail treatments will include how maintain hands and nails using luxury treatments such as exfoliator, hand mask, paraffin wax and warm oil, along with filing nails, hand and arm massage and how to apply dark and French polish
Foot treatments will include how to maintain feet using luxury treatments such as exfoliator, hand mask, paraffin wax, along with filing nails, hard skin removal, foot and leg massage and how to apply dark and French polish.
Facial skin care treatments will cover how to analyse the skin to improve and maintain the facial skin condition using methods such as exfoliation, skin warming techniques, facial massage, face masks along with the use of facial products.
Eyelash and eyebrow treatments will cover the application of eyelash and eyebrow tint, artificial lashes including strip and flare lashes and brow shaping.
Provide make up application will cover make up application for a variety of occasions, including day, evening and special occasions
Provide basic massage techniques you will cover back, neck and shoulder massage alongside the principles of a full body massage

Typical job roles include:
Attend to clients using excellent customer service skills offering refreshments and preparing the clients for their beauty service. You could be expected to assist and manage the reception area booking in services for clients and selling products. Following on from your off/on the job training you will be allowed to practice the skills that you have learnt on clients. You will assist the senior therapists to prepare for beauty services for example ensure that tools and equipment are ready to be used. Your employer will allow you to train and expand your skills on models that they or you have provided as part of a full training programme in the salon alongside attending college once a week.

What else do I need to know?

On an apprenticeship programme you usually will work for a minimum of 30 hours a week for the employer and then have one day a week at college or designated time in the workplace.
Some job roles will require a DBS before starting, you will be advised at interview stage if this is required.
Whilst you are on an apprenticeship your employer pays you a salary, this includes all off the job training as well.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need to hold a relevant level GCSE E (grade 2) Maths and English. You will be expected to undertake functional skills at level 2 in these subjects to show progression.

How is it assessed?

Your progress is continually monitored throughout the course. Assessments are arranged when necessary and these take place both on-the-job and in college.

Assessments will include:
Practical observations in waxing, eye treatments, facials, manicures, pedicures, make up and back massage
Knowledge and understanding will be assessed by online tests and through assignments.

End point assessment- when all other assessments have been completed a 5hr Practical exam by VTCT will take place at college.

What financial support is on offer?

While you are on an apprenticeship your employer pays you a salary and supports you whilst you undertake your training

What can I do next?

If you successfully achieve all parts of the apprenticeship, your assessor will discuss with you and your employer the next steps to take. Dependent on your roles and responsibilities, this may be the next level of the subject you have been studying already or a different pathway.
