Course overview

This course will appeal to a wide range of individuals who may have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The course is made up of modules focusing on personal and social development with a strong emphasis on the development of literacy and numeracy. Units include:

- Healthy living
- Working as part of a group
- Managing social relationships
- Community action
- Preparation for work
- Making the most of leisure time
- Environmental awareness

Learners also take part in a cookery session where they learn how to prepare meals safely and from scratch. Learners will select an enrichment opportunity which encourages learners to interact with others and develop new skills.

What are the entry requirements?

Our Life Skills and Employment Training curriculum offers opportunities for learners who are working at Entry 1 to Entry 3. Learners who access this provision have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and join the college to develop their life skills and employability prospects.

How is it assessed?

Each qualification is taught in units with on-going assessment, work produced will be kept in their own learning portfolio.

What financial support is on offer?

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18. If you are outside this age group please contact 01782 254188.
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £21,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?

Our goal is to prepare learners for adulthood. Although we cannot guarantee employment, we work extremely hard to ensure learners are in the best possible place to access opportunities for employment, increase independent living skills and increase community inclusion.
