Course overview

This full time, one year course is perfect if you want to work in performing arts. Performing arts is an exciting industry that involves more than just the big performance. The range of preproduction and technical roles means theres something for everyone. You will come to college four days a week and also take part in work experience to give you the best chance to get a job in the performing arts industry after completing your course. Areas you will learn about include performing arts, English, maths, work experience, business ideas and problem solving. You will first be assessed in English and maths before starting the course.
You will learn basic acting, singing and dancing skills, perform in front of audiences and learn about backstage roles in the industry

What are the entry requirements?

You will have two GCSEs at grade 2 or below. However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at interview.

Progressing students will also need to demonstrate good attendance and punctuality and to have been on a work experience placement.

How is it assessed?

You are continually assessed throughout the course by building a portfolio of work. Practical assessments will be observed by your tutors.
You must pass all the units to gain this qualification. To pass each unit you will produce a portfolio of evidence including a range of written assignment work, presentations, project work, group work and practical-based assessments.

What financial support is on offer?

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18. If you are outside this age group please contact 01782 254188.
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £21,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances. What can I do next?

You can go on to our BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts Level 2 course or a similar course. You can sign up to an intermediate level apprenticeship or continue to build on your English and math skills.
