Course overview
The introductory course will give you the confidence to progress onto the full GCSE Maths course.. While attending the introductory course you will focus on number work (whole number, decimals, and fractions) as well as shape and measures (units of measure, areas, volumes etc).What else do I need to know?
Please note that courses run subject to minimum viable class sizes. Please note there may be additional costs for books, materials or other expensesIn addition, a functional skills maths class will run alongside the GCSE class, and will be available as an alternative to the GCSE maths course.
What are the entry requirements?
You will need to complete an interview prior to starting the introductory course. During the interview you will need to demonstrate a good level of number skills, these will be assessed through a combination of online and writing tasks.
How is it assessed?
Throughout the introductory course you will complete progress assessments and weekly homework tasks. These will be used to ensure you are developing the appropriate skills to progress onto the full GCSE Maths course. In addition, at the end of the 6 weeks you will be given a GCSE entry test to ensure you are placed on the most appropriate course for you.
What financial support is on offer?
A range of financial support may be available for adult students to help towards the cost of your fees, equipment, childcare and/or other expenses while studying, depending on your personal circumstances and the course you are studying. For full details please visit www.nscg.ac.uk/finance
What can I do next?
To successfully progress on to the GCSE maths course you will need to pass the GCSE entry exam which will test the knowledge and skills you have developed within the introductory course. In addition to the entry exam, you will need to prove excellent commitment and attendance, as well as demonstrate a good level of progress and attainment in your weekly assessments and homework.
