Course overview

The sport industry is an exciting sector enabling you to progress and specialise in a range of exciting areas. Sport provides a great platform to get out and support the local community whether you are teaching sports skills to beginners or right up to professional sportsmen. Teaching in Physical Education is a hugely rewarding job that requires knowledge of a range of sports and coaching theories. The programme of study includes a range of sport based topics, English, maths, work experience, enterprise and entrepreneurial concepts and problem solving.

The aim of this course is to develop your theoretical and practical knowledge of Sport through working towards a Level 3 nationally recognised qualification. The course is also designed to prepare you for higher education in a sports related subject or a career in the area of Sports Coaching, teaching, analysis, nutrition or psychology. You will cover a minimum of 14 units in total over the two year, full-time course.

You will learn through a well-balanced range of studies, which combines practical skills with theoretical knowledge. Your lessons will take place in classrooms, sports facilities (indoor/outdoor) and in the sports laboratory. It is recommended that learners complete as much volunteering and work experience as possible to give them an insight into working in the sports industry e.g. Physiotherapists, Fitness Instructors, Sports Physiologists and Sports Teachers. Alongside your course maths and English will be continually assessed to improve your skills in these vital subjects.

You will:

Gain invaluable work experience within the sports sector to map out your successful career in any number of exciting sports employment possibilities.

Examine the full picture of sport including anatomy and physiology, health and safety and other vital topics to be successful in a range of exciting sports careers.

Test your progressive and developing coaching for physical education delivery.

Analyse the impact of a range of lifestyle considerations on performance from nutrition, sports injury and the rehabilitation through sports massage.

Alongside your course you will study maths or English to improve your skills in these vital subjects by attending structured weekly sessions as part of your timetable. Maths and English development is also integrated in practical assignments.
