Hospitality and Catering Students' series of community lunches comes to an end
Students from Stafford Campus have received thanks from firefighters in Stafford Borough following a series of events hosted at the Colleges’ Riverbank Restaurant.
Entitled, ‘The Mess Room @ Riverbank’, the sessions were aimed at promoting engagement with the Fire and Rescue Service and members of the local community and took place monthly from January to May.
As part of the sessions, aspiring young chefs from the College prepared a two-course meal, enhancing their skills in food planning, preparation and service, which was served to guests in the Riverbank Restaurant.
More than 160 members of the community, including local residents, community and faith groups, charities, other emergency services and military personnel from the nearby MOD Stafford have enjoyed a free two-course lunch throughout the duration of the partnership.
Group Manager James Green, Delivery Group Lead for Stafford, Cannock Chase and South Staffs said: “When we initially approached the college with an idea in October of last year, we never anticipated the level of support and commitment that we have received to date.
“The success of the events is testament not only to the generosity of NSCG but also to the skills and hospitality of Richard and his fantastic team at Riverbank Restaurant.”
Richard Allan, Riverbank Restaurant manager and catering lecturer, said: “We were so pleased to have been able to facilitate Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and work with them to offer delicious lunches to residents across the Stafford area.
“Our talented hospitality and catering learners represented NSCG Stafford College fantastically and created an incredible menu and atmosphere in the restaurant.
“We are very proud of them for rising to the challenge and we are proud to be part of the local community. It was our pleasure to welcome so many through the doors and we hope they visit us again soon.”
