IWD 2025: Q&A with Taylor Pullin

As part of our International Women's Day 2025 celebrations, we want to shine a spotlight on our inspiring female athletes. We've spoken to a selection about their sporting successes and what they plan on conquering next.

In this Q&A, we spoke to BTEC Sport & Exercise Science student Taylor Pullin, who recently won 1st place at the United Aerial Arts Championships.

How and when did you first get into Aerial and Pole Arts?

I’ve grown up watching my mum and auntie take part in the sport and finally got the chance to give a try when I was 9. Since that day I have not stopped. At the time I did also do dance and gymnastics but quickly quit that as I found the Aerial Community to be a lot nicer than the dance world.

Do you take part competitively?

I’ve been competing in Aerial Arts since I was 14. In January I attended the International Performance Aerial Arts Tournament and came 2nd in the Instructor Category. However, in my most recent competition (United Aerial Arts Championships) I came 1st in the Higher Instructor Category!

What would you say is your favourite thing about your sport?

My favourite thing about my sport is that it’s very niche and people are always amazed when you show them or talk about it. It has also allowed me to feel free by incorporating my love for dance in my routines.

How do you find juggling this with your studies?

Juggling Aerial with my studies can sometimes be difficult as it is also my job. There have been a lot of times where I’ve had to find a way to balance coursework, competitions and teaching.

What are you working towards at the minute?

Currently I am working on getting myself out there. I’ve started to use social media more to promote my aerial as eventually I’d like to open my own studio where dance, pole and aerial will be combined as a new way of fitness.

What is your favourite thing about studying at NSCG?

My favourite thing about NSCG is how supportive all the lecturers are with things we accomplish outside college. They are always rooting for us in whatever it is we decide to do!

What are your future plans for life after NSCG?

After college I will be attending Keele University to do Physiotherapy. After this I hope to start my own business and be working towards opening a studio.

What song/artist do you have on repeat at the minute?

Currently I have my two competition songs on repeat! They are Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson for hoop and I Put A Spell On You for silks.
