A Week in the Life of an Apprenticeship Manager at NSCG

A typical week will start with our Apprenticeship Managers reviewing emails and checking on apprentices' progress. A key part of the role involves engaging with employers to ensure apprenticeship programs meet their needs. This may include:

• Scheduling meetings with employers to discuss apprentice performance.
• Identifying new apprenticeship opportunities within businesses.
• Addressing any concerns or challenges employers may have.

Nicky Warburton regularly spends time liaising with companies to ensure smooth recruitment of new apprentices, ensuring vacancies align with business objectives.

Supporting apprentices is at the heart of what our managers do. They regularly check in with learners, providing mentorship and ensuring they are progressing in their roles. This includes:

• Conducting workplace visits to assess apprentices’ skills development.
• Offering guidance on career progression and professional growth.
• Collaborating with tutors to align academic learning with practical experience.

Richard Gibbons often visits apprentice’s on-site, providing reassurance and coaching to help them build confidence in their roles.

During the week the managers will spend time ensuring apprenticeships comply with government regulations and training standards. This involves:

• Reviewing training plans and monitoring assessment progress.
• Ensuring compliance with apprenticeship funding requirements.
• Working with colleagues to refine and improve apprenticeship programs.

Dean Moorhouse plays a key role in refining curriculum delivery, ensuring apprentices receive industry-relevant training that meets national standards.

Another important weekly task for the Managers is to reflect on achievements and plan for the future. They often attend networking events or employer engagement sessions to explore new opportunities. Stephen Finney takes the lead in developing new partnerships, expanding the reach of NSCG’s apprenticeship programmes.
