Stafford College Celebrates Student Success with January 'Student of the Month' Awards

Each month Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group hold a ‘Student of the Month’ awards presentation that recognises the individual effort, progress and dedication of students who show outstanding commitment throughout the year.

Highlighting and recognising incredible students, the presentations included a number of inspirational stories from staff about their nominees who have gone above and beyond on their chosen course area.

We were pleased to welcome Sir Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, as our special guest for this month's awards.

Vlada Vasylieva

Nominated for the English & Maths Award, Vlada joined NSCG from Ukraine last May, and is now studying Level 2 Health and Social Care and both GCSE Maths and English. Throughout the term, she has been a perfect student in terms of her fantastic attendance, attitude to her studies and application of the skills she has learned, with her lecturers commenting on how she is a "joy to teach". Vlada has shown admirable commitment to her course, attending every lesson and revision session, building upon feedback and guidance to progress forward. As a result of her dedication Vlada has scored the highest result in the College in the GCSE November resits. Vlada is the ultimate example of what can be possible when you apply yourself. Now with ambitions to study Psychology in the future, we are certain Vlada will succeed.

Mohamed Soliman

Nominated for the Apprentice of the Month Award, Mohamed is a bright, likeable and enthusiastic apprentice who has a very positive attitude to his learning. Mohamed’s attitude to his work is admirable, always completed to a high standard, most notably his recent Python program project where he was tasked to minimize on user error whilst reducing test time. Mohamed took this challenge head on and test times have been reduced from 12 to 4 minutes, impressing everyone at his placement. Mohamed's assessor, Sheldon Hughes stated, "Although it is very early in his apprenticeship journey, based on the positive comments regarding his application to both his College work and his performance with his employers to date, I feel that he is very worthy winner of this award."

Katherine Lee

Katherine joined NSCG with an outstanding set of grade 9 GCSE results, and has fully embraced her A-Level studies in Maths, Chemistry and Physics. Maths is where Katherine shines, leading to her considering engineering as a possible progression pathway after A-Levels. Her super-curricular work is outstanding, as she has recently represented NSCG in this year’s Chemistry Race Competition at Cambridge University. Katherine has applied to attend Oxford’s UNIQ Materials Science study day in the summer. She is also currently exploring possible research topics for her EPQ and Cambridge sponsored HE+ research project! In her latest assessments, Katherine has achieved A* across the boar, an incredible start to her study programme.
