Course Type: Adults
Course overview
Studying the Advanced English for Speakers of Other Languages course is perfect for learners who possess intermediate proficiency in all aspects of the English language. This informal, yet tailored course will prepare you for life and your future career prospects.
This is an advanced course suitable for students who are partially fluent in every skill of the English Language. Sessions are informal and tailored to the needs of individual students who will have an input into choosing session content. Teaching will be taught in a holistic way, combining all skills to ensure you are prepared for living and working in the UK.
During this course, advanced grammar skills will be honed, analytical and evaluative skills developed for reading and extensive written tasks focusing on developing arguments and advanced vocabulary. However, the emphasis will be on developing fluency- speaking skills- so, in depth work on pronunciation/stress intonation/phrasal verbs and colloquial expressions. Class presentations will be encouraged (on an individual and group basis) and the skills of debate using controversial topics.
You should be very confident with reading, writing and speaking and listening skills. Where it is possible, but not essential, you should hold a Level 2 ESOL qualification.
To help ensure the ESOL course meets your starting point, you will be invited to attend college prior to the course start date to complete a written diagnostic, have an interview to assess your speaking and listening skills, meet your teacher and learn more about the course
Based on these assessments, we will be able to place you on the correct level based on your prior knowledge and skills. If you have achieved a specific level at another college, then we will need to see the certificates as proof, but you will still undertake the above assessments.
There are no formal assessments, but you will need to complete an individual learning plan and provide evidence of your progress.
To find out more contact Michelle Davies by emailing michelle.davies@nscg.ac.uk or calling 01785 275509
