The part time HNC/D Leadership and Management provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in leadership roles across various industries. With a focus on practical application, students learn about effective communication, problem-solving and decision-making in a management context.

Through hands-on projects and industry-relevant assessments, graduates are prepared to lead teams, implement strategic initiatives, and drive organisational change in today's dynamic business world.

The course will help you to develop as a professional, self-reflecting individual in Leadership and Management and give you the skills to adapt to a constantly changing business world. The qualification offers a nationally-recognised, higher-education qualification and the chance to enhance your career prospects. This is an ideal course for those who are looking to add to their CV, develop or change their career.

The aims of the Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Leadership and Management are:

  • to develop students’ leadership and management skills, knowledge and understanding to achieve high performance in the business environment
  • to develop students with enquiring minds, who have the abilities and confidence to lead and manage within different business functions, be able to respond to
  • change and tackle a range of complex business situations
  • to provide insight into business operations and the opportunities and challenges presented by a global marketplace so that students can create and deliver
  • operational plans that achieve goals and objectives
  • to develop students’ understanding of the major impacts that digital technologies have upon the business environment, data security and management, and how to effectively use technology in an organisation
  • to provide the core skills required for a range of careers in leadership and management, including operations management, talent management, marketing, and sales
  • to develop student behaviours that are inclusive, agile and professional, to enable students to strive for achievement in all aspects of work and demonstrate resilience and accountability
  • to offer a balance between employability skills, behaviours and knowledge essential for students with employment or academic ambitions
  • to equip students with knowledge and understanding of organisational values, culturally diverse organisations, cross-cultural issues, diversity and values

Students who have recently been in education are likely to need one of the following:

  • a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Business
  • a GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C (or equivalent) and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as maths and English
  • other related Level 3 qualifications
  • an Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved further education institution
  • relevant work experience, or
  • an international equivalent to the above qualifications.

Assessments will be ongoing via assignments that can develop a broad range of higher level skills. The overall award of the HNC a student must have:

  • completed units equivalent to 120 credits at Level 4, and
  • achieved at least a pass in 105 credits at Level 4

On successful completion of the HND in Leadership and Management at NSCG, learners can explore top-up degree options available to them at a variety of higher education institutions, including an exclusive one-year Business and Management or Business and Finance degree with Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Institute of Technology (SoTIoT) partner, Keele University.

You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan or Higher Education Loan to help with the costs of your course if you are 19 or older and the course you are studying is an eligible Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 course. What else do I need to know?

This part-time HNC course runs over two years and you will attend college for one afternoon/evening per week. The fee per year is £2,975.

Enrolment onto the HNC (Year 1) does not automatically ensure you are able to progress on to the HND (Year 2 - Level 5) this will be based on performance in your assessments and will be monitored throughout the programme. 

We have strong links with local universities with those that are looking to progress onto the Level 6 'top-up' year to achieve a full Bachelor's degree.
