Course overview

Grow your skills in Intermediate Carpentry and Joinery for a successful career or hobby in this sector.

During this short 10-week course, our industry-trained teaching staff will guide you through all aspects of Carpentry and Joinery, from hand tool work, through to 1st fix, 2nd fix and structural carcass work.

This is a follow-on course from the Carpentry for Beginners course, and so you will be able to further develop the skills you have already gained, for either recreational DIY or if you're looking to begin a career in this area of construction and engineering.

Learners will need to either have completed Beginners Introductory Carpentry at NSCG or be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of the trade
  • Current role within a trade related role
  • Or evidence of projects done using the tools required to carry out 1st fix and 2nd fix.

This course in carpentry and joinery will be delivered and assessed, using verbal and visual feedback, creating pieces of work that adhere to current regulations and standards.

To find out, get in touch with Adam Sutton by emailing adam.sutton@nscg.ac.uk

During the course you and your teacher will explore progression options depending on your individual needs.

The skills that they will develop will also allow them to apply for an NVQ in Carpentry and Joinery which is the industry standard qualification of practice required work in the industry. Students will be able to use all of the work that they produce during the college course as evidence to support an NVQ portfolio.

This course is FREE to adult learners aged 19+ who reside in Staffordshire. Please note that a £30 materials fee will apply on enrolment.
