Course overview

Develop your artistic talents with our Level 2 Extended Certificate in Art and Design Skills. Explore a variety of mediums and techniques, from drawing and painting to digital design and sculpture. Gain hands-on experience in expressing your creativity through diverse projects. This comprehensive program prepares you for further studies or entry-level positions in the art and design industry. Whether you dream of becoming an illustrator, graphic designer, or fine artist, this certificate is your pathway to success in the dynamic world of art and design.

This exciting course provides an introduction into a creative industries career, catering to both traditional art, craft and design and media. It includes development of drawing, 3D, compositional and presentation skills; which are important to any creative student. The course also offers Graphics, moving image, photographic and concept art projects. Art, craft and design will include Fine Art, illustration, print, ceramics and surface pattern based projects.

As well as developing your creative skills, you will be encouraged to learn more about the history of key subject areas and key artists and designers. The course takes one year to complete if you are studying full-time. To achieve the BTEC Certificate you need to obtain a Pass or above in all coursework units to achieve the full qualification.

You will continue to improve your Maths and/or English skills in structured lessons alongside your course and Maths and English will also be integrated into your main course programme.

You will have two GCSEs at grade 4 or above plus a good portfolio. One of the GCSE's must include an art & design based subject. This can include Art & Design, Photography, Graphics, Textiles, Product Design or BTEC Craft. However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at interview.

If you do not have a minimum GCSE grade 4 for Maths / English you would study these as a part of your timetabled study programme. These structured weekly sessions will help you to improve your skills in these vital subject/s. In addition Maths and English development is integrated into practical course sessions and assignments.

You are continuously assessed throughout the course both formally and informally. Assessments take the form of an individual display of work, which is assessed and evaluated by the staff that teach you. The results are available for discussion and advice about how you might best progress on the course. Your overall qualification is designated a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction.
