Course overview

Would you like to be more confident with maths and numbers to help your young children with their maths homework. This FREE course is the perfect place to start to grow in confidence.

Delivered online, this course is a series of friendly and supportive sessions that explore how your children are taught in primary school. The course will be delivered by a primary maths subject expert who will give you the opportunity to learn about up-to-date practice used by primary school teachers. Discover and try out method methods which you can use at home to help your child to consolidate their learning and become more confident at school.

During the course you will explore:
• Understanding number
• Progression in calculation skills
• Key skills/number facts which are essential to support understanding
• What are children expected to know by Year 6? What do KS2 assessment questions look like?

You will also develop your own numeracy skills and understanding which will help you to become more confident with supporting your child on their learning journey up to KS2.

There are no entry requirements, but you will need to be 19+ and reside in Staffordshire .

There are no formal assessments, but we will track your progress. To help us get a better understanding of your maths needs you will complete an initial assessment at the start of the course.

Once you have completed the course, you will have the option of progressing to a maths qualification or further learning to support you further.

A range of financial support may be available for adult students to help towards the cost of your fees, equipment, childcare and/or other expenses while studying, depending on your personal circumstances and the course you are studying. For more details visit nscg.ac.uk/finance

You will be asked to attend one face to face introduction session where you will be given all the details about how to access the online learning.

This course has been funded by the Government's Multiply Project and is aimed at Staffordshire residents aged 19+.
