Course overview
Take the first steps to gaining a recognised qualification in Interior Design with this introductory course. You will be introduced to fashion trends, colour, light, materials and decoration and the key principles and terminology used in interior design. From interpreting a client brief to realising and communicating creative ideas, this course will give you the foundations to progress in this creative sector.
This 10-week course provides learners with different techniques and skills to undertake a design project based on a house design and a greater appreciation of design, architecture and the environment around you.
The course will also provide you with the skills to:
- Design a room in your own home
- Develop your drawing and design skills
- Learn about the principles of design
- Learn how to prepare mood/sample boards
- Learn about drawing, history, colour/materials and presentation techniques.
There are no formal entry reqiurements for this course but an interest in interior design and general design concepts is essential.
The course consists of a combination of theory and practical activities, although students are required to complete a house design project.

Upon completion of this course learners will have the opportunity to progress to the Level 1 Award in Interior Design.

What else do I need to know?
The course will give you a taster of what interior design is all about and you will be taught by a professionally qualified tutor. You will study in a relaxed, friendly and stimulating environment and you will gain a variety of new skills whilst having a great opportunity to meet new people. A wide mixture of students attend, all of varying ages and abilities. No experience is required and you will have the full support and guidance from your tutor.
