Course overview

Develop practical skills for conducting comprehensive inspections, tests and verification procedures to assess the safety and functionality of electrical systems

This is a roll-on, roll-off qualification that is commenced at anytime during the year based on demand.

This course is aimed at electricians who wish to carry out the inspection, testing and commissioning of electrical installations.  It is relevant to those who wish to acquire new knowledge and skills during their careers.

This Level 3 award gives the learner an understanding of the theory and practice of the initial verification and commissioning of both single and three phase electrical installations. The award follows BS 7671 and the industry recognised IET Guidance Note 3 and the Best Practice Guides from Electrical Safety First. And, it will provide an opportunity for individuals to develop and/or enhance their knowledge and skills in the inspection and testing of single and three phase low voltage electrical installations.

The award covers the theory and practice involved with the initial verification and commissioning and periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting of both single and three phase electrical installations.  The qualification is part of a suite of electrical qualifications including 18th Edition, Periodic Inspection (Condition Reporting) and a combined Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection (Condition Reporting) qualification.

Following the completion of this qualification, you may wish to progress onto one the following courses:

  • EAL Level 3 Award in the Requirements for the Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points
  • 18th Edition
  • The Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations

If you are 19-23, it is your first Level 3, and are studying an SFA approved Level 3 programme you may be eligible for full fee remission.

You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan or Higher Education Loan to help with the costs of your course if you are 19 or older and the course you are studying is an eligible Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 course.
