NSCG hosts T-Level Employer Insight Event
Representatives from the Association of Colleges joined a host of Staffordshire-based colleges and local employers for an in-depth look into the current T Level provision available at NSCG.
T Levels are a brand new two-year qualification equivalent to three A Levels combining classroom learning with an extended industry placement.
Designed with businesses and employers to give young people the skills that industries need, T Levels can be studied in a range of subject areas including Business, Construction, Digital, Education & Childcare, Engineering & Manufacturing, Healthcare and Motor Vehicle with more subject areas planned in the near future.
As one of the region’s first colleges to offer this exciting new qualification, NSCG hosted a T Level Insight Day to share best practice with other local colleges including Stoke on Trent College, Stoke 6th Form, Shrewsbury Colleges Group, Telford College, JCB Academy and West Nottinghamshire College many of which will begin offering the T Level pathway from September 2023.
Also attending the event this week, were representatives from the Association of Colleges (AoC) and key partner employers Portmeirion and Cyber Kiln who gave talks on offering industry placements to students before the visitors heard from current T Level students themselves.
Meryl Finney, T Levels Manager, said: “The T Level Insight Day was an opportunity for visiting colleges to see how we are getting along with our T Level provision.
“We join a number of providers from wave 1 and 2 who currently offer T Levels so we were able to talk to visitors about our journey so far from a curriculum point of view, employer engagement and also let them hear from current students.”
One of the students who spoke at the event was Archie Brownsword. He is studying a Level 3 T Level in Digital Production, Design & Development.
“It was great to be able to share my experience as a T Level student,” he said. “I have gained lots of useful experience and knowledge from my work placement and feel as though the course has put me in a great position for the future.”
Each T Level includes an in-depth industry placement that lasts at least 45 days throughout the course. Students get valuable experience in the workplace and employers get early sight of the new talent in their industry.
“It was a pleasure to welcome other local colleges to NSCG and share best practice with them,” continued Meryl.
“The feedback and comments from those who attended was hugely positive and we’d like to say a huge thank you to all who came and particularly to Julie Twigg from Portmeirion and Chris Daniels from Cyber kiln for giving their time to discuss how T Level students are working for them and the great addition they are having in the workforce.”
