Course overview

This course is designed to provide you with a solid foundation in hairdressing techniques and salon operations. Learn the basics of hair cutting, styling, colouring and client consultation.

The aim of this course is to provide a programme of training leading to a qualification recognised within the hairdressing industry. This qualification will introduce you to the techniques required by individuals seeking to begin their career in hairdressing.

The programme involves a study of technical units and related units including professional image, working in the industry, blow drying, setting, colouring, basic cutting techniques, styling women's hair, health & safety and temporary colour.

The course runs for three days per week over a one year period for 16-18 year olds.

You learn by carrying out services designed to enable you to show competence working on clients. Some of these are practical, some written and some are spoken repsonses to your tutor's questions.

As part of your study programme you will complete maths and/or English qualifications if you have not already achieved a grade 4 or above.

The study programme will also incorporate work experience and a range of work related activities to ensure that you have the breadth of skills required to progress to further training on Level 2 or an apprenticeship.

You will need 2 GCSEs at grade 2 . However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at interview.

You are continually assessed throughout the course by building your portfolio of work, assignments and practical assessments are observed by your assessor on a selection of clients.
