The aim of the course is to provide a programme of training leading to a nationally recognised professional qualification for individuals who would like to work within the beauty and make-up industry. During the course, you will cover a range of units including facial skincare, photographic make-up, make-up application, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, applying skin tanning, body art and nail art. Hair units covered are dressing hair, consultation, shampooing, plaiting and twisting.

The study programme will also incorporate industry placement to ensure that you have the breadth of skills required to progress to further/higher education, employment or an apprenticeship.

You will need 3 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and maths. However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at interview. The course is open to men and women from the age of 16 upwards and is predominantly aimed at students wishing to progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair & Media Make-up.

This is a one year full-time course where you will learn through a mixture of practical and theory lessons. You are continually assessed throughout the course by building a portfolio of work. Practical assessments will be observed by your assessor on a selection of clients. Exams will be completed by online tests.

Completion of this course can lead to progression onto the Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair & Media Make-up.

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18.

Bursary support is based on individual circumstances and will be allocated to best suit your individual needs.
