Join the rapidly evolving world of competitive gaming and Esports management.

Students will explore the Esports industry, including game analysis, event management, broadcasting and marketing. Through practical projects and hands-on experience, learners gain insights into the strategies and techniques used by professional Esports organisations. With a focus on teamwork, leadership and innovation, students are prepared to pursue exciting career opportunities in Esports management, event production, broadcasting, and beyond, contributing to the growth and success of this dynamic industry.

The BTEC Extended Diploma in Esports is equivalent to three A Levels and offers students the chance to study many of the different areas within the video gaming industry. Throughout the course you will complete modules relating to Esports Skills and Strategies, Health and Well-being for Players, Managing Esports Events, Computer Games Design, Producing and Managing a Brand, Video Production and Broadcast and Computer Networking it will also give you the opportunity to progress to higher education or a career in Esports.

The course is about organised, competitive, human-versus-human video-gaming where people play against each other online and at live spectator events. Focused on employability and skills building, the course is designed to enhance your wider career prospects. There are no exams and all assessment is coursework based. You will study Mandatory Units in:

  • Introduction to Esports
  • Esports Skills, Strategies and Analysis
  • Health, Well-being and Fitness for Esports Players
  • Enterprise and Entrepreneurship
  • Esports Events

Specialist units are likely to include;

  • Psychology for Esports Performance
  • Video Production
  • Games Design
  • Producing an Esports Brand
  • Commentary Casting
  • Live-streamed Broadcasting
  • Computer Networking
  • Business Application of Esports in Social Media
  • Customer Immersion Experiences

Competitions will also take place with the British E-Sports champs for Colleges and students are expected to be familiar with the more popular Esports titles and their operation as part of their course. You will undertake a minimum of 3 days' work experience to gain valuable and employable skills to help when looking for employment following the course. Trips to major Esports events are planned as part of the course.

You will need a minimum of four or more high grades at GCSE in subjects relevant to the course you’d like to study, including maths and/or English Language at grade 4 or above. Alternatively, you’ll need a Level 2 Extended Certificate with overall Merit in a relevant subject plus maths and/or English at grade 3.

You are continuously assessed throughout the course which is assessed through 100% coursework - no exams.

For each unit, awarding body criteria have to be met. Your tutors ensure that you are given opportunities to do this through projects, video evidence, actual production materials and participation in events / event hosting with witness testimonials.

Your timetable will include independent study time to enable you to consolidate the work carried out in lectures.

The Extended Diploma in Esports provides understanding and skills to enter a wide variety of careers including PR/Marketing/social media, event manager, professional Esports player, video production editor, data analyst, shoutcaster. It also qualifies you to progress to higher education at Higher National Diploma/Certificate or Degree Level. (You will also achieve UCAS points).

College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £26,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment.
