Health and Social Care learners benefit from Young Responder Training

NSCG Stafford College students recently took part in the St John Ambulance Young Responder training to support their studies on BTEC and T-Level Health and Social Care courses.

The Young Responder Training programme aims to equip students with vital first aid skills, designed to help themselves or someone in their community should they ever need medical assistance.

The interactive sessions, delivered by expert St John Ambulance facilitators, focuses on building the students’ confidence by teaching them easy to remember emergency first aid skills.

The training covered situations such as responding to a catastrophic bleed, dealing with alcohol or substance intoxication, performing CPR and recognising the signs of deteriorating mental health.

The Young Responder training precedes a curriculum initiative, which will see students create campaigns, fundraise for bleed kits and hear from families who have been affected by knife crime.

Cat Staley, Placement Officer for Health & Social Care at NSCG said: “We’ve had a fantastic week with St John Ambulance, giving our learners the opportunity to practice lifesaving skills. The feedback from learners has been great and they’re excited to start putting their campaigns together.”
