The aim of the course is to offer you the opportunity to gain the skills demanded by employers in accounting and finance, whilst achieving an internationally recognised qualification that could ultimately lead to the full AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Accounting Qualification and full AAT membership.

You will attend the College on a full-time basis over one year. There will also be study time to enable you to consolidate the work carried out in lectures.

All units are mandatory and the subjects include;

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping
  • Principles of Control Accounts
  • Principles of Costing
  • Business Awareness
  • Sage Computerised Accounts
  • Sage Payroll

Work Experience

You will be required to undertake a 2 week, block, work experience placement to embed your knowledge in a practical environment.

English

Alongside your course, if you have just missed out on a GCSE grade 4, you will have the opportunity to study English to improve your skills in this vital subject by attending structured weekly sessions as part of your timetable.

You will need 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including a grade 4 or above in maths.
If you do not have these qualifications and are keen to join the course, we will be happy to consider and advise you individually.

You are assessed against the standards of competence laid down by the AAT, you will need to achieve a minimum of 70 per cent in all of the computer-based assessments.

After successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma many students progress to our AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting, often as part of an apprenticeship programme. Alternative Level 3 qualifications in business & associated areas are also possible.

College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £26,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. What else do I need to know?

You learn through experiencing a varied programme which includes activities, solving simulated problems, lectures, group work, discussions and attempting past examinations. You will also be required to study away from lectures to ensure exam success.
