Course overview

Discover the essential safety requirements and fundamental skills needed for operating centre lathes with this short course aimed at adult learners. Learn the basic skills of practical turning and milling alongside industry processes such as work-holding, tool setting and a range of turning and milling operations. 

This short course aimed at adult learners aged 19+ is designed to introduce students to the safe operation and use of a Centre Lathe. The course will cover safe operation of equipment and also a range of subjects including:

  • Workholding methods
  • Machining to size
  • Measuring techniques
  • Machining features such as faces and diameters, knurling, tapers, undercuts, drilling and taping.

There are no entry requirements for this course.

To ensure you are on track, and understanding the course, your tutor will use verbal questions, observations and an individual learning plan to monitor your progress against the course outcomes.
