Course overview

Advance your engineering skills with our Level 2 Diploma in Practical Engineering. Dive deeper into mechanical, electrical and structural engineering principles. Gain hands-on experience in applying engineering concepts to real-world projects. This comprehensive program equips you with the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in engineering. Whether you aspire to work in manufacturing, construction, or technology, this diploma provides the foundation for excellence in practical engineering.

The course consists of 7 units; you will gain practical skills in hand-fitting, turning and milling and an excellent knowledge of theory to support these practical skills. You will also gain an excellent knowledge in modern engineering practices (such as design and machine programming). Alongside your course, you will study English if not already achieved grade 4.

You will need a grade 4 or above in Maths and 3 or above in English language. You will need to attend a short interview to ensure that the course meets your needs and to ensure that we can identify any extra support that you may need. If you do not have these qualifications and are keen to join the course, we will be happy to consider and advise you individually.

You will complete a range of practical projects and will be assessed and monitored throughout the year on these. You will also compile a portfolio of all of this work to show what you have learned. You will complete tests and assignments in English as required.

If you wish to find out more you can contact Nathan Roberts, Curriculum Leader, by emailing: nathan.roberts@nscg.ac.uk

After completing the course you will be well prepared to progress into employment with a local company as an engineering apprentice. You will spend most of the working week developing your skills at your place of work and the rest of the week at College, furthering your technical knowledge and practical skills. You could also progress onto other full time Engineering courses to suit your strengths and needs.

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18. If you are outside this age group, please contact Charlotte Robertson on 01782 254141 or email charlotte.robertson@nscg.ac.uk.

College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a household income under £26,000 can receive up to £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment.
