Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group Announces Strategic Partnership with Staffordshire FA

Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) has today officially announced a new strategic partnership with the Staffordshire Football Association (Staffordshire FA), signalling a powerful alignment designed to benefit both local grassroots sport and the next generation of young talent across the Staffordshire region.

This formal agreement represents an exciting new chapter and a natural evolution of a long-standing, collaborative relationship. For a number of years, NSCG and Staffordshire FA have worked closely to enhance technical and competitive opportunities for the College’s talented and driven sports students. By stepping into an official capacity as an institutional partner, NSCG looks forward to building an even closer relationship that extends its impact far beyond the pitch.

The newly formalised alliance marks an ambitious step forward in the relationship, broadening its scope to support not only the central operations of the Staffordshire FA but also the vast network of community football clubs operating across the County. As a leading further education provider delivering an expansive range of study programmes, NSCG identified an immense opportunity to align institutional capabilities with the practical, day-to-day needs of local sports organisations.

Central to this partnership is the leveraging of recently introduced T-Level qualifications, which have significantly expanded the scope of work-ready disciplines available to industry partners. In addition to a soon to be introduced Sports Science T Level, NSCG students are specialising in fields such as Marketing, Digital Development, Legal Services and Engineering, and as such are poised to offer invaluable operational capacity to county clubs.  Through high-quality industry placements, students will gain critical, real-world experience, while grassroots clubs receive professional support to strengthen their digital infrastructure, community engagement, compliance and facilities management.

Commenting on the partnership, Shelley Brown, Deputy Principal, NSCG, said: "Formalising our relationship with Staffordshire FA is a proud moment for NSCG. Over the years, our work together has focused on unlocking the potential of our sports students, but this official partnership opens up an entirely new dimension of community collaboration. With our broad range of T-Level pathways, we can now inject high-calibre talent from sport, digital, legal, marketing and engineering disciplines directly into local clubs. This is a natural evolution that delivers a double benefit: giving our students unparalleled industry experience whilst supporting the operational capacity of vital community sports hubs across Staffordshire."

Gareth Thomas, Commercial & Partnerships Lead at Staffordshire FA, said: “We’re really excited about the potential of this partnership with NSCG. We’ve had a great working relationship with the College over a long period of time now, which has seen some excellent collaboration on projects which have had a positive impact in traditional areas of football development, but also with some impactful off-field initiatives too. The potential for extending that collaboration beyond Staffordshire FA to our network of grassroots football clubs – particularly those clubs who are now managing facilities 7 days a week – is very exciting. The new T-Level pathways and placement opportunities can hopefully support and enhance our network of local grassroots clubs, and we look forward to developing these conversations further.”

By integrating technical education with county-wide sport, the partnership establishes a blueprint for civic engagement and regional development. Placements are scheduled to begin aligning in the next academic year.
