Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) student Rhiannon Kearns has raised over £600 for The Little Princess Trust after completing a sponsored haircut, which took place at Newcastle College’s Academy of Hairdressing salon.

Rhiannon, who is currently studying A Level Geography, History and Psychology, took part in the fundraising effort alongside her younger sister, Ebony.

In addition to raising money, the girls’ hair will also be donated to the charity and will be used to create wigs for young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other conditions.

The inspiration for the charitable act came from their mum, who donated her own hair to The Little Princess Trust several years ago. Wanting to follow in her footsteps and support a cause close to their hearts, Rhiannon and Ebony set out to raise £200 to help cover the costs of wig-making. They have now more than tripled their target, with donations currently totalling £665.

Rhiannon spent nearly four years growing her hair to below waist-length, so the donation marked the end of a long journey and a generous commitment to the cause.

Speaking about her achievement, Rhiannon said: “It felt so amazing to give to a community of children in need. I speak on behalf of myself and Ebony when I express how wonderful it felt knowing we have helped the Little Princess Trust, even on a small scale. All of the donations and support have meant the world to us, as it’s a charity very close to our hearts.”
