NSCG Student Secures Apprenticeship with Bentley

Ethan Berns, who recently completed his studies at Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG), will be starting a highly sought after apprenticeship with Bentley Motors in September.
Over the last two years, Ethan has been completing his Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering in Motorsports at NSCG Stafford College. Having finished with an overall grade of Pass/Merit, he has successfully secured a 4-year apprenticeship with Bentley Motors, where he will be working within the Research and Development (R&D) Prototype Department.
Shortlisted as one of the final 14 candidates out of 300 applicants in a rigorous application process, Ethan successfully navigated an online interview process and panel presentation to ultimately secure the only apprenticeship place for this position at the company.
Ethan said, “During my time at NSCG, I participated in the residential trip to Prague and the Škoda Factory, which provided valuable insight into modern automotive manufacturing processes. This experience broadened my understanding of the industry and may have contributed to my success in securing my apprenticeship with Bentley.
“I was also involved with the Motorsport racing activities and attended race events, which I thoroughly enjoyed and which allowed me to further develop my passion for motorsport.
“I am looking forward to developing my skills within one of the world's leading luxury automotive manufacturers and contributing to the development of future prototype vehicles.
“NSCG has given me the opportunity and environment to grow in confidence and maturity. The lecturers and teaching staff have always been supportive and have treated me as a young adult, encouraging me to take responsibility for my own learning and development.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the Motorsport course and have made some incredible friends who I hope will remain friends for life. One of the highlights has been the practical, hands-on nature of the course, particularly working in the workshop and on real vehicles. The skills I have learned have already proven valuable, as I passed my driving test in April and have since been able to work on my own car alongside friends from the course.”
As part of a large trainee cohort including Apprentices, Graduates and Placement students Ethan will have access to regular networking sessions, he's set to begin his apprenticeship in September, is excited to progress his career in the industry.
Ethan continued: “I am excited to begin my apprenticeship with Bentley Motors and to take advantage of every opportunity available to me. I hope to develop a long-term career within the company, working on innovative prototype projects and learning from some of the best engineers in the industry. Looking further ahead, I would love the opportunity to travel internationally through my work, learn German, become part of the wider Volkswagen Group and build a successful career with Bentley for many years to come.”
Commenting on Ethan’s success Robert Marston, Curriculum Leader for Motor Vehicle, said: “Ethan was a very enthusiastic learner who worked to a high standard during his time at the college, he was a pleasure to teach and showed great team skills whilst we were away on visits. He was always happy to carry out any duties required of him, and always had a positive attitude in doing so. I really do wish Ethan all the best in his endeavours and couldn’t be happier for him, he truly deserves it!”
