NSCG welcomes new students with Freshers’ Fair
With a record-breaking number of students enrolling at NSCG this year, the college pulled out all the stops to welcome the new cohort with a fantastic Freshers’ Fair.
The Freshers’ Fair, which ran for 2 days at each campus, saw local businesses, charities and health providers engaging with new students, helping them to make the most of their time at NSCG.
Representatives from Trentham Gardens, Pure Gym and Youth Net were kept busy on their stalls, and were joined by Race against Blood Cancer, Staffordshire Sexual Health Charity and Resolv (Solvent Abuse Support and Advice), who were also on hand to educate students around health, sexual wellbeing and drug use.
Keeping the students entertained was the Gamechanger mobile gaming van, Batak Lite contest and a Prize Pong competition run by the Student Engagement team, with students also able to help themselves to refreshments from the complimentary popcorn and candyfloss carts.
Also providing guidance was the college’s Student Engagement and Wellbeing team, who were able to advise on both the financial and additional learning support available to learners at NSCG, as well as careers advice and signposting to further services.
One of the most popular events was the visit from Pets as Therapy, a charity that aims to ensure everyone has access to the benefits and companionship of a friendly pet. Volunteers brought along their dogs and spoke to students about the impact animals can have on our well-being, as well offering lots of cuddles with their four-legged friends.
Students were invited to register for the college’s mentoring scheme, where first and second year students buddied together to help with the transition from school to further education. The Xtra programme was also encouraging sign ups, which sees students become NSCG ambassadors assisting at open days and college events.
