NSCG’s alumni named as finalist in the British Education Awards 2024

NSCG’s Newcastle College alumni Olivia (Liv) Windsor has been named as a finalist in the British Education Awards 2024 in recognition of her brilliant academic results and extracurricular success within the Vocational category.

The British Education Awards (BEA) promotes excellence in British education and recognises the value and importance of education and learning as the foundation to a good quality of life and for future success. The BEA identifies and celebrates individuals who have excelled within our British education system, acknowledging that success comes down to personal endeavour and application.

Liv, an incredibly talented student, joined NSCG in 2021 to study a BTEC National Extended Diploma in Applied Science, after extended periods of home learning during COVID-19. Along with all high school leavers in 2021, Liv’s opportunity to sit her GCSE’s was taken away due to the restrictions of the pandemic at the time. Despite this Liv thrived academically as she adapted to the demands of her course at NSCG.

Liv was nominated for the award by Lisa Browne, Assistant Head of Faculty for Academic and Creative Studies at NSCG, because of her exceptional drive and commitment to her studies.

Commenting on Liv’s achievement, Lisa said: “I’m delighted that Liv has been picked as a finalist, this is a real testament to how hard she’s worked to craft herself an incredible future in Science.

“Liv had an appetite for hard work, tackling tasks without delay and was very resilient. She had a quiet confidence in her ability and often led the way with her peer students when working in small groups. This is all the more commendable as she ensured her grades were consistently high, despite undergoing two knee surgeries following a sporting accident, and caring for her disabled mother.

“Without exception, all of Liv’s teachers admired her work ethic, resilience and attitude which is why she was awarded the Vocational Science Award in the NSCG end of year Celebration Awards in 2023. It was no surprise that she left NSCG with three Distinction star grades and has progressed to Keele University to study biomedical science and we have no doubt she will continue to flourish at university and have a successful career. We wish her luck.”

The overall winner of the British Education Awards will be announced on Friday 9th February during a national ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester. The ceremony is a unique event where young people, their families and teachers, along with politicians, professionals and celebrities from across the UK come together to celebrate educational attainment.
