I really enjoying studying as an adult learner at NSCG. Floristry lets me be creative and the ESOL course helps me to improve my English skills.

Which courses have you studied at NSCG?

I am currently studying Level 1 Floristry at Newcastle College and ESOL Level 2 at Stafford College. I have also recently completed the ESOL Introduction to Teaching Assistant course and the Online Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health.

Why did you choose to study at NSCG?

I live in Stone so both colleges are close to me. I was already doing the ESOL course when I spotted the other courses.

What attracted you to the Floristry course?

I love crocheting and anything creative. I have previously worked in floristry and eventually I would like to set up my own business.

What have you enjoyed most about the course?

I have enjoyed learning to use the tools needed to make every design I work on. The classes are informal and quite easy for me to follow

What is your favourite flower?

I love roses but then again I love all flowers especially the smell you get when you walk into a room.

Have their been any big challenges along the way?

My English skills probably. But because I am studying ESOL at the same time, that helps me to remember things each week. Learning to use the different tools on offer has also be tricky at times.

How did your first arrangement look compared to now?

Very basic! Each week I do something better and I hope it will all come together.

What's next for you?

I want to move onto Level 2 and then work in a business. Eventually I would like to run my own floristry business.

What would advice be to anyone thinking of studying an adult course?

There are lots of courses to choose from and you can do more than one like I have done. ESOL courses are good for helping with your english skills and they help you on other courses. I started off by looking at the website so this is a good place to start.
