Returning to education has been the best decision I've ever made for myself. This course is one of only a few across the Midlands so it was great to see this course on offer close to home.

Carly Evans, VTCT Level 4 Advanced Beauty Diploma

Why did you choose to study the Level 4 Advanced Beauty Diploma?

In 2023, I decided to sign up for the Level 2 Beauty course after raising my four children. This was honestly the best decision I've ever made for myself. After I finished the Level 3 course, I knew I wanted to carry on studying in this industry and the Level 4 course was a good fit for me and my homelife.

What attracted you to Stafford College?

This course is one of only a few across the Midlands so it was great to see this course on offer close to home. Stafford College is really accessible for me and has a great reputation.

Do you work alongside your studies?

No, I care full time for my disabled 12 year old alongside my studies, so life is very busy!

The class sizes at NSCG are smaller and tailored to industry skills. How do you benefit from this personalised support and guidance?

I feel that the class sizes benefit me because I am unsure of getting involved in class discussions so this suits me and my personality. I have more time for 1:1 learning and the lessons are often structured to what the class needs. This keeps everything fresh and relevant to what we all need help with.

How is the industry-standard equipment helping you to develop your practical skills?

NSCG has Lynton machines which are the best machines on the market for aesthetic treatments, so I'm able to really get ahead of the competition. The experience of using this specific equipment will also help me to progress onto higher level study as it is an essential qualification to be accepted onto university courses. In the long-term, I want to become self employed so this will also help me in my future business ventures.

How is the course helping you to stand out in this industry?

As I'm already on this Level 4 course, when industry licensing comes into force in the UK, I will be industry-ready. The course is also giving me the drive, knowledge and confidence to progress onto Level 5, 6 and 7.

What have you enjoyed most about studying as an adult learner?

I have really enjoyed learning new skills and using the laser machines as they are incredible. The course has definitely helped me to grow in confidence and my tutor supports me to be the best I can be. The support I've received on a personal level has been so important to me - having four children can be a juggle and sometimes things go wrong so I know I can ask for help around my studies.

We also visited the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Institute of Technology recently and had the opportunity to create our own products in the testing lab which something I've never seen before.

On completion of your studies, what's next for you?

I want to continue my studies and progress onto Level 5, 6 and 7. I will probably then look to gain experience in a salon before going self-employed.

Where would you like to be in 5 years?

Working for myself so that i can work around my family. I would like to provide treatments but also creating my own skin care and cosmetics.

Do you have any advice to anyone thinking of studying this course at NSCG?

Just do it and don't overthink the decision. Go along to an open event or visit the website as that is a good place to start, It has been the best thing I've ever done and the support I've received has been amazing. I have really enjoyed being at NSCG growing my confidence and communication skills.
