Stafford College Celebrates Student Success with 'Student of the Month' Awards
Each month Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group hold a ‘Student of the Month’ awards presentation that highlights and recognises the individual effort, progress and dedication of students who go above and beyond throughout the year.
This month saw the November round of nominees collect their awards. A huge thank you to Sir Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, for joining us and presenting the learners with their awards as we highlighted and recognised the dedication of our students.
The presentations included a number of inspirational stories from staff about their nominees, including; students overcoming personal challenges and going above and beyond on their chosen courses with exemplary attendance and hard work. We've seen some amazing stories of success that we just can't wait to share with you.
Niamh Newby
Nominated for the Apprentice of the Month Award, Niamh shines in her Commis Chef Apprenticeship, emerging as an exceptional role model in the dynamic hospitality industry. Attending every class with enthusiasm, Niamh's pure desire to learn is admirable, tackling both knowledge and the practical skills needed to succeed in the industry. Within the demanding hospitality culture, her positive mind-set is a valuable asset. Currently employed at Aston Marina, she's making waves in her development, even featuring her delectable Hazelnut, Chocolate, and Baileys profiteroles on the menu at No. 26. Niamh's initiative extended to securing work experience at Upstairs in Lichfield, Staffordshire's only Michelin-starred restaurant, earning praise from owner Tom Shepherd. A remarkable accolade!
Alfie Furlong
Alfie has been nominated for Student of the Month in the Faculty of Professional Studies in recognition for his exceptional motivation and hard work throughout 4 years at the College. Currently completing a Foundation Degree in Science in Sports Coaching and Physical Education, Alfie excels both academically and in coaching delivery. Striving for excellence, his goal isn't just a Merit; he pushes for the First Class range. Aspiring for a teaching career in physical education, Alfie is proactively securing a purposeful work placement at Stafford Manor High School. Alfie demonstrates resilience in his studies, recently receiving the CPR Hero Award from the British Heart Foundation, but continuing to produce excellent work. Alfie is an exceptional student, destined for success as he moves on to his Level 6 studies at Staffordshire University.
Lauren Rigby
Lauren has been nominated for the Construction and Engineering Student of the Month Award, in recognition for consistently delivering high-quality work and achieving distinctions across all units—an incredible feat! With a predicted Distinction*, Lauren goes above and beyond, attending extra days and contributing as a mature member of the Student Board. Lauren has ambitious plans to apply to Bath University for Aerospace Engineering, aspiring to contribute to ground-breaking projects like NASA's Artemis Project. Previous work experience at RAF Cosford as an Aircraft Technician showcases expertise at the highest level, emphasizing excellence and technical precision. Undoubtedly, Lauren will stand out in UCAS applications and shine in her future university course and career.
