Level 2 and 3 Hair & Media Make-up students from Newcastle College have been given the amazing opportunity to collaborate with headdress designer, Lyn Oswin, for their “Create an Image” project.
Lyn, owner of Enchanted Headdress in Oxfordshire visited the College this week to see the finished pieces for herself, and to chat to students about the headdresses they chose to work with from her exquisite collection.
Hair and Media Make-up Lecturer, Shelley Cross said, “This is a phenomenal project for the students to work on. Level 3 students will use their creations for their final exam piece, so this is their time to shine. All of the students have been able to view the headdress collection virtually in advance to choose two to work with. They have been challenged to create one look on themselves, and a second look on one of their peers gaining inspiration from their chosen headdresses. Their creations are so unique and I'm so proud to work with them all.”
“I set this project, as within the industry, they will very often be required to work with lots of different artists from different genres, working together to create amazing and unique looks for clients. The students have had full creative control on the look to go for, choosing a style of face and body make-up that will complement the headdresses. Being able to interpret an initial design through to concept and being able to execute a full plan is so important, and a brilliant skill to have for this super competitive industry.”
Headdress designer Lyn Oswin, of Enchanted Headdress, said: "It was so exciting to see the fabulous array of make-up designs that the students had created to complement my headdresses. I was completely wowed at their talent, and would be delighted to link-up with NSCG, and media make-up tutor Shelley Cross, again in the future."
Talking about the project, Level 3 student, Millie Vrapi said, “This has been a really interesting project to work on, which has really challenged us all. My favourite part has been to learn how my designs look on professional photographs rather than on my mobile phone, and what I need to look out for in the final detail.
“We all produced mood boards and a face chart as an initial concept and the final results are stunning.”
