Course overview

The AET Award in Education and Training provides a solid foundation for individuals aspiring to become educators or trainers. 

Explore essential concepts of teaching, learning, and assessment, gaining practical skills to effectively deliver engaging lessons. Learn about planning and delivering sessions, managing classroom dynamics, and assessing learner progress. This qualification is ideal for those entering the education sector or seeking to enhance their teaching abilities in diverse learning environments.

You will learn about the basic theories of teaching and the fundamental elements required to teach learners in post-compulsory education. You will learn about lesson planning, delivery and assessment.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET qualification) is the first step in teacher training, and this learning pathway can take you all the way to a PGCS (Postgraduate Certificate in Education).

You will complete the following three units:

  • Understanding the Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
  • Understanding and using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in education and training
  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment

A minimum of a Level 3 qualification in your subject specialism, GCSE grade 4/C or above in maths and English, or equivalent qualification.

You will build a portfolio of evidence and you will be observed undertaking a micro-teach.

You coud progress to a higher education qualification in teaching or to Assessing and Quality Assurance courses.

If you are 19-23, it is your first Level 3, and are studying an SFA approved Level 3 programme you may be eligible for full fee remission.

You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan or Higher Education Loan to help with the costs of your course if you are 19 or older and the course you are studying is an eligible Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 course.
