Course overview

This versatile qualification is aimed at adult learners who currently work as or are progressing towards Senior Healthcare Support Worker roles. The course is designed to broaden awareness on how to work with people of all age groups and care needs and to develop the confidence and attributes to become a leader.

The course will run over approximately 15 months. Training and assessment will be in the workplace, and arranged with the assessor.

The course consists of a range of both mandatory units and a selection of Optional units relating to your specific work role.

Core Units include:

  • Communication
  • Health and Safety and Safeguarding
  • Responsibilities of a Care Worker including Duty of Care and Personal Development

A total of 65 credits are required to achieve the Diploma. Evidence is produced from a number of methods e.g. workbooks, professional discussion etc. (knowledge) and working practices for example observations (performance). All are designed to allow you to demonstrate your role and develop skills required in this highly sensitive area.

There are no formal qualifications required to do the course. However a Level 2 NVQ or QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care would be an advantage. A good general level of education and literacy would also be beneficial. Also to be in a work role to support the level of the qualification.

Assessment will take in the workplace through a range of direct observations, professional discussions, Q/As, case studies and written evidence, including witness statements of work roles already carried out. Recognised prior learning will also be used to meet the criteria where applicable

Progression with career and specialist qualifications in health and social care. Further progression on to higher education for the health and social care sector. Also opportunities for other work place responsibilities and opportunities. Could include a route to a nursing profession.

If you are 19-23, it is your first Level 3, and are studying an SFA approved Level 3 programme you may be eligible for full fee remission.
