Course overview
Begin your journey into working with babies and young children with this Level 2 course. A stepping-stone for progression to the level two early years and education course, you will explore key principles and practices within early years in topics such as child development, play and learning, safeguarding and food and nutrition.
This qualification covers a range of key subject areas that provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to care for and educate babies and children. Some of the units that are covered during this qualification include: child development, play and learning, nutrition and safeguarding. Within the course you will also study GCSE Maths and English Language (if required).
You will need 3 GCSE’s at grade 3 or above (subject to interview).
This qualification is made up of 6 units assessed through assignments. There are no external exams included in this qualification however all units must be passed to progress.

If you are successful on this course you will have the opportunity to progress onto our more in depth Level 2 qualification. This provides learning upto age 12 years and involves a more substantial placement experience in nurseries and schools.
This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18.
College Maintenance Allowance (CMA): Anyone with a gross household income under £35,000 can receive financial support to cover college related costs such as transport, meals, course equipment and uniform. Bursary support is based on individual circumstances and will be allocated to best suit your individual needs. What else do I need to know?
The qualification provides you with the opportunity to carry out a work placement within a nursery in semester two which allows you to apply the classroom theory to practical experience. As you will be working with children, you will need to have a clearance form which is called a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) in order to ensure the safety of the vulnerable children and young adults that you will come into contact with.
