Course overview

This introductory course is ideal for adult learners who have a strong interest in a career in the automotive sector. You will learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and successful career progression within this technology-focussed industry. 

You will develop a clear understanding of the maintenance procedures required to maintain the systems and will work on a range of vehicles in our motor vehicle workshops to hone your skills.

These qualifications cover a variety of automotive related areas including:

  • Vehicle engine systems
  • Lubrication systems
  • Vehicle electrical systems
  • Suspension systems
  • Basics of vehicle body fitting

No formal entry requirements for this course are needed. Support with English and maths is available to adult learners if required.

You'll be assessed using practical activities and oral/written questioning.

Our qualifications lead directly into full employment or on to a level 2 vehicle fitting qualification.

This introductory qualifications gives you the background knowledge you need to advance successfully into a job and can lead into employment as a specialised vehicle technician.

Courses with a duration over 12 weeks and costing in excess of £150 (including exam fees) can be paid for in instalments over the duration of the course or one year (whichever is shorter). While the College can not guarantee this arrangement in every case, we will do our best to accommodate requests to pay by instalments. In order to pay by instalments you must come into the college, we cannot take payment online.
