This introductory short course is designed for adult learners interested in developing foundational skills in engineering operations. Participants will gain practical experience in various engineering techniques and understand the basics of operating essential machinery.
This short course is aimed at adult learners, who are interested in developing basic skills in engineering operations.
- Safe Operation of Machinery: Learn the fundamentals of operating engineering machinery safely.
- Hand-Fitting Techniques: Develop skills in hand-fitting, including the use of hand tools to produce components to industry standards.
- Welding Basics: Introduction to welding techniques and safety procedures.
- Measuring and Inspection: Use measuring and inspection equipment to check for accuracy of components.
There are no entry requirements for this course, however learners will need to be aged 19+ and reside in Staffordshire, with Staffordshire County Council as their local authority.
To ensure you are on track, and understanding the course, your tutor will use verbal questions, observations and an individual learning plan to monitor your progress against the course outcomes.

The course will allow progression onto further engineering disciplines such as computer aided design (CAD) or computer numerical control (CNC) in milling.
