Course overview

Do you have an interest in developing new  specialist skills in Milling? This introductory short course will give you the chance to develop your basic working knowledge of the safe operations of milling machines.

This short course aimed at adult learners is designed to introduce students to the safe operation and use of a milling machine. The course will the below areas:

  • Cover safe operation of milling machines
  • Workholding methods
  • Machining to size
  • Measuring techniques
  • Machining features such as steps and shoulders, open and enclosed slots, angles, drilling and tapping.

There are no entry requirements for this course, however learners will need to be aged 19+ and reside in Staffordshire, with Staffordshire County Council as their local authority.

To ensure you are on track, and understanding the course, your tutor will use verbal questions, observations and an individual learning plan to monitor your progress against the course outcomes.

The course will allow progression onto further engineering disciplines such as computer aided design (CAD) or computer numerical control (CNC) in milling.

This course is FREE if you're aged 19+ and reside in Staffordshire and your authority is Staffordshire County Council.
