Course overview

Transform your passion for hairstyling into a rewarding career with our Level 2 Certificate in Women's Hairdressing. Dive into advanced techniques for cutting, coloring and styling women's hair. Gain hands-on experience in salon management, client consultations and product knowledge. This comprehensive program equips you with the skills and creativity to excel in the competitive world of hairdressing. Whether you dream of owning your salon or working in a high-end salon, this certificate is your pathway to success in women's hairdressing.

The aim of this course is to provide a programme of training leading to a nationally recognised qualification within the hairdressing industry. This qualification would enhance and compliment techniques required by individuals seeking employment in this profession.

The programme involves a study of technical units including styling, blow drying, setting techniques, colouring and cutting (perming is optional), health and safety, advise and consult with clients, and shampoo and condition hair scalp.

Full-time study is one academic year, two days in college for adults aged over 19 or three days in college for 16-18 year olds. English and maths skills will also be enhanced during your programme via work related studies. 16-18 year olds who don't have grade 4 will be able to resit their GCSEs.

Industry placement is part of the full time study programme. Previous accreditation may reduce the amount of learning required within this programme.

You will learn by working in one of the training salons to develop your skills and carrying out assessments in our commercial salon on clients.

You will need 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above. However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at interview. Good communication skills and working as part of a team are a requirement for this course. Entry to the course is by interview enabling us to discuss your individual training and development needs.

You are continually assessed throughout the course by building your portfolio of work, which contains evidence of your competence in each of the technical and related skills. On the VRQ programme you will have the opportunity to work towards Pass, Merit or Distinction grades.

There is an online test for most units.
