Course overview

Animation is increasingly being used to promote products and services across various platforms from movie title sequences to mobile devices. If you want to hone your creative skills and seek employment in the ever-changing and dynamic creative industries, this full full time, two-year programme is perfect for you.

This course will equip you with the necessary skills to enable you to apply both traditional and digital techniques in a series of projects and workshops designed to replicate the industry.

You will develop practical, animation and concept art skills used within the industry and develop your knowledge and abilities through a range of mediums including: Digital Concept Art, Digital Animation, Figure Studies, 3D Modelling and Animation, Traditional Art Application, Character Design, Storyboarding, Traditional Animation and Stopmotion Animation.

You will also learn how use Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk Maya, Toonboom Harmony and Dragonframe as well as have practical sessions in traditional drawing.

These practical skills will be backed up with sessions in ideas generation and Art Theory.

Students from this course have gone on to have successful careers within the industry at companies like Weta Digital, ILM and The Frame Store and have even won Oscars for animation at Disney.

You will need a minimum of four or more high grades at GCSE in subjects relevant to the course you’d like to study, including maths and/or English Language at grade 4 or above. You will also need GCSE grade 4 or above in an Art-related subject and/or a good portfolio.

You will be assessed at regular points throughout the year as you complete each task within a unit of study. You will receive formative written and verbal feedback from highly experienced course staff.

Students on this programme can go on to study Animation and related subjects at HE level, or apply for a higher apprenticeship.

This course is free for anyone aged 16 – 18.
