Course overview

The Digital Systems and Data V Level is designed for students interested in technology, data and how digital systems solve real-world problems. You'll develop knowledge of digital technologies, cybersecurity, data analysis and digital solution design, while building the analytical and problem-solving skills valued by universities and employers.

This qualification provides a broad foundation for progression to Higher Education, apprenticeships and careers across the digital sector. It is designed to be studied alongside two A Levels and combines particularly well with Mathematics, Computer Science, Business, Economics and Physics.

The Digital Systems and Data V Level explores how technology and data are used to support organisations and solve problems in today's digital world.

Understanding Digital Systems: You'll study hardware, software, networks, cloud technologies and digital infrastructure, gaining an understanding of how modern digital systems are developed, connected and managed.

Working with Data: You'll learn how data is collected, stored, analysed and interpreted, and how organisations use information to support decision-making and improve performance.

Cyber Security and Digital Risk: You'll investigate cyber threats, security measures and risk management, learning how organisations protect systems, information and digital assets.

Designing Digital Solutions: Using realistic scenarios, you'll analyse user needs, investigate problems and develop digital solutions that meet organisational requirements.

Responsible Digital Practice: You'll explore legal, ethical and environmental issues, including data protection, accessibility, sustainability and professional standards within the digital sector.

Throughout the course you'll apply your learning to real-world scenarios, developing valuable analytical, research and problem-solving skills.

A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above, including English Language and Mathematics, alongside the College's general entry requirements for Level 3 study.

60% Non-Exam Assessment | 40% Examined Assessment

Assessment focuses on applying knowledge and skills to realistic digital contexts. Students will analyse systems, interpret data, identify risks, design solutions and evaluate the impact of technology.

This qualification supports progression to university, higher apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships within the growing digital sector.

Popular destinations include Computer Science, Cyber Security, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Technology degree programmes, as well as pathways in software development, data analysis and cyber security.

Students will also develop transferable skills in communication, critical thinking, project management and problem-solving that are valued by employers across a wide range of industries.

This course is free for students aged 16-18.

College Maintenance Allowance (CMA)
