A look back at National Apprenticeship Week #NAW2025

As National Apprenticeship Week 2025 (NAW) comes to a close, it's the perfect time to reflect and showcase the exciting events that Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) had the privilege of participating in.

The week kicked off with a visit to the University of Staffordshire Apprenticeship Fair, where the NSCG Work Based Learning team had the chance to speak to employers, school leavers and those looking for a career change about life as an apprentice.

There was also good news for NSCG’s Accounting Assessor, Elliott Lancaster, who was shortlisted for the ‘Excellence in Training Delivery’ award at the Apprenticeship Guide Awards 2025- he will be heading to Manchester in May for the awards ceremony.

Later in the week, The Big Apprenticeship Expo took place at the Bet365 Stadium and Beaconside Conference Centre, and brought together training providers and students to showcase apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of sectors.

NSCG’s Director of Apprenticeships, Jane Tunnicliff, also attended the Keele University Apprenticeship and Skills Panel Breakfast Event where she joined a board of industry professionals who focused on busting common myths about apprenticeships and providing their expert guidance to the audience of businesses.

National Apprenticeship Week was also a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on some of the real-life success stories from NSCG apprentices. These case studies highlight the impact of apprenticeships on career development and provided valuable insights for those considering the pathway.

By watching the video you can hear from Daisy, who has worked in hospitality since she was 15. She decided an apprenticeship was a better path for her and, now a Supervisor, Daisy is developing her skills and earning a wage.

The annual Pizza and Prosecco Charity Auction was the perfect way to end the week, raising an incredible £7,192 in support of The Macari Centre, a local homelessness charity.

Founder, former footballer, and Stoke City Manager Lou Macari attended as Guest of Honour, adding a special touch to the evening.

The event also served as a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the outstanding employers and providers who support the college’s apprentices, with a dedicated awards ceremony recognising their contributions.
