On Tuesday 11 November, staff and students from across Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) came together to pay tribute to those who lost their lives while serving in the armed forces.
Remembrance Services were held across all four NSCG campuses, with military veterans and emergency service workers invited to join the commemorations.
At Newcastle College and Stafford College, students delivered a series of musical pieces, including performances of You’ll Never Walk Alone and A Million Dreams. Readings of For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon were also given before wreaths were laid at local cenotaphs.
At Leek College, Personal Tutor Jack Dendy read five poems written by students Bethany Weeden, Jasper Ryan, Dylan Frodsham, Harry Hurst and Archie Graham, followed by a playing of The Last Post, which marked the start of the two minute silence.
Following the service, Campus Director Becky Sergeant, Curriculum Manager for Skills, Progression and Sport Shane Beckensall and Personal Tutor Jack Dendy led students to the Nicholson War Memorial on Ashbourne Road to lay a wreath in remembrance.
At the Institute of Technology, learners also took part in a two minute silence before visiting the VR/AR immersive space, which displayed footage and images of war throughout the ages, offering a powerful, interactive way to reflect on the importance of remembrance.
Across all campuses, the services provided a poignant opportunity for the NSCG community to come together in reflection for those who have served the country.
